Kelowna RCMP File 2025-38322
The Kelowna RCMP is providing an official update regarding an incident that occurred on Friday, July 4, 2025, in the vicinity of the 1900-block of Enterprise Way.
The incident, which was originally reported to be a motor vehicle incident with a subsequent assault involving a weapon was reported to police at approximately 12:54 p.m. A male suspect was arrested by police following a brief pursuit and both female victims were taken to hospital.
One of the victims, Bailey Plover succumbed to her injuries. The second woman injured in the incident remains in hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
The Kelowna RCMP can confirm that on Saturday, July 5, 2025, the BC Prosecution Service approved a charge of second-degree murder against James Edward Plover in relation to the incident. The suspect was known to the deceased victim.
Kelowna RCMP’s Serious Crime Unit is investigating and is working closely with the BC Prosecution Service. Mr. Plover remains in custody and is scheduled to appear in court on July 10, 2025.
“This was a highly visible and tragic event, and we recognize the profound impact it has had on many individuals and the community,” said Inspector Chris Goebel, Acting Officer in Charge of the Kelowna RCMP.
“While our investigation is ongoing, we are incredibly grateful to the witnesses who have already come forward and the first responders who acted swiftly and professionally in managing this high-risk situation. Their cooperation has been instrumental in helping us move this complex investigation forward.”
The RCMP encourages anyone affected by this incident to seek available support services. Resources including Victim Services are in place to assist those in need and anyone seeking assistance can reach out to them at 250-470-6242. “We want everyone touched by this tragedy to know that help is available,” added Inspector Goebel.
